If you are having video issues when you try to watch Gaia, it may be due to an issue with the content itself, your device settings, or your network connection. Follow the steps for your device below to resolve the issue.
Gaia supports all Android TVs that use an Android TV Operating System.
When a video plays in lower-than-expected quality or continues to buffer, then it’s likely due to your internet speed (bandwidth) or your device’s processing speed.
As Gaia is a streaming service, having access to a stable internet connection is crucial for quality viewing. For optimal streaming, we recommend a minimum speed of 5.0 Mbps.
We would recommend testing your internet speed by following the steps below:
- From the Android TV home screen, go to “Settings."
- Under "Device," select “Wi-Fi.”
- Select a network and follow the on-screen instructions.
- On your remote control, press the “Home” button.
- On the home screen, select the “Apps” icon OR press and hold the “home” button to open the list of installed apps.
- Press the left, right, up, or down arrow buttons to highlight the Gaia app.
- Press and hold the “Enter” button.
- Select “Info.”
- Select “Force stop.”
Try to log out of your Gaia account before logging back in. To do this, follow these steps below:
- From the home page of your Gaia app, click “My Account” in the lower right corner of your screen.
- Click “log out” from the bottom of the menu.
- Log back in using your credentials.
Please ensure you are using the latest version of the Gaia app by following the steps below:
- On your remote control, press “Home.”
- The next steps will depend on your TV menu options:
- Select “Apps” → “Google Play Store” → “Settings” → “Auto-update apps” → “Auto-update apps at any time.”
- Select “Google Play Store” → “Settings” → “Auto-update apps” → “Auto-update apps at any time.”
- From the Android TV home screen, go to “Settings.”
- Select “About.”
- “Restart.”
- Once the system restarts, open the Gaia app.
- From the Android TV home screen, scroll to “Settings“.
- Under "Device," select “Apps.”
- Under "Downloaded apps," choose the Gaia app.
- Select “Uninstall OK.”
- Reinstall the app by following our instructions here.
Restarting your home network can help to refresh your connection and improve video playback.
To do this, please follow the steps below:
- Unplug your modem (and your wireless router, if it's a separate device). Leave them both unplugged for 30 seconds.
- Plug in your modem and wait until the indicator lights are on. If your router is separate from your modem, plug your router in and wait until the indicator lights are back on.
- Connect your TV and open the Gaia app.
- Turn off or unplug your smart TV.
- Plug your smart TV directly into your modem using an Ethernet or LAN cable.
- Unplug your modem from power for at least 30 seconds, then plug it back in and wait until no new indicator lights are blinking on.
- Turn on your smart TV and try opening the Gaia app again. Ensure your network settings are configured to an Ethernet setting.
To clear your Gaia app data, please follow the steps below:
- Press the “Home” button on your remote.
- Select “Settings.”
- The next steps depend on your TV menu options:
- Select “Apps” → “See all apps” → “Show system apps.”
- Select “Apps.”
- Under “Apps,” select the Gaia app.
- Select “Clear cache,” then select “OK.”
- Select “Clear data,” then select “OK.”
- From the Android TV home screen, go to “Settings."
- Select “About”
- “System software update”
- “Software update.”
- Install any available updates.
